Proposition 8…

Read this blog entry regarding proposition 8 few days ago…

Well, basically once upon a time, The US court said that enacting a law to ban same-sex marriage is opposing state constitution…

So, a group of people who called themselves a “marriage protector” went around the US to call for state constitutional amendment, to define that a marriage is, well, exclusively for a man and a woman…

Many of the states passed the measure through referendum vote. This year in the coming US election (Nov 4th by the way), 3 states put up the ballot question, to eliminate right of same-sex couples to marry. In Arizona and Florida, it’s Proposition 102 and 2. In California, it is Proposition 8.

I don’t see any problem with gay people. I agree with this website (No on Prop 8), which is campaigning fiercely in California to ask Californian to vote NO…

It is funny how people have got to vote NO to stop others from trying to incorporate DISCRIMINATION and INEQUALITY into constitution. I don’t know what social scientists say about MARRIAGE, but to “protect” a marriage using constitution, which is supposedly upholding EQUALITY, FAIRNESS and HUMAN RIGHTS, is quite ridiculous. I remember seeing somewhere that actress Meryl Streep once said that she did not think (two) biggest problems in US were too many people want to commit their life with each other till death… How true~

Arizona and Florida are done deal, almost no hope in rejecting while California being one of the US’s most liberal, is likely to have close call for Yes or No. Let’s see if the campaigns, backed by so many politicians (It is quite surprising to find out the US senators from California are both women LOL) and even Arnold the governor, will stop the proposition 8.

By the way, there were quite large number of same-sex couples in California already, which included Ellen Degeneres and her wife~

The video based on an openly gay supervisor of San Francisco back in 1970s, Harvey Milk, who Sean Penn is starring as, in the movie “Milk”… Interesting how he grouped the minorities together…

===================================================================================

But then what about Malaysia? Nah, don’t even mention the word “gay” please. Even if, even if one day Malaysia is going to free the gays for being illegal (in mainly the Penal code), will the fatwa council then fatwa the gays like what they are RIDICULOUSLY targetting on Tomboys and Yoga (I like Marina Mahathir’s blog 😉 ). What about the syariah laws? Islam is not doing well with homosexuals, so as the other religions…

And talking about minorities, Malaysia still has to deal with the so-called Malay-Muslim supremacy, upheld by none other than the UMNO and PAS… NEP, which abuse ethnically minorities, is still not going anywhere.

Long long way~~

By the way, langgar constitution or social contract seems to be hot phrase in Malaysia nowadays. Penang government wants to set up additional language roadsigns in Georgetown world heritage area, but a bunch of idiots said it’s challenging the Bahasa Malaysia, which is defined as national language in constitution.

Well, sue the Penang government lah. Too bad Malaysia Constitution doesn’t recognize referendum, or else they could start whatever proposition to amend the constitution to stop multilingual roadsigns… No more two-third majority, my dear BN.
